ABOUT RESOURCES FOR RENEWAL

Every age needs voices of wisdom and vision to navigate the challenges of life.

In response to the pressing needs of our world, we have developed

resources for renewal to support your desire for a more purposeful life.

Resources for Renewal offers media resources and opportunities for immersive experiences that reveal sources of wisdom, creativity, insight, and meaning.

We provide access to a wellspring of renewal through seminars, retreats,

and spiritual immersion experiences.

Resources for Renewal is an educational 501(c)3 that works with individuals,

churches and non-profits to promote greater access to human resilience

using insights from spiritual leaders, past and present,

and practices from contemplative traditions.

Resources for Renewal was created to address the acute needs

of those with high-intensity professional responsibilities,

especially caregivers, pastoral ministers, and educators.

Resources for Renewal addresses their need

for deep and targeted resources to continue to grow professionally,

to understand and adapt their professionalism to the increasingly complex

challenges of today’s world, and to prevent or recover

from compassion fatigue, secondary trauma or moral injury.

We seek to support strong leaders

and to nurture the strength of communities,

so that the work of discernment, stewardship, and pastoral accompaniment

is shouldered together,

and so that all can participate in and share

the joys of growth and fruition.

Most of our programming in renewal, reflection, immersion

and discernment is available and accessible to the general public,

sometimes in the form of workshops that we sponsor ourselves

and, more often, with co-sponsored days of reflection

held onsite at local churches and other facilities.

We also meet with executive teams and staff

at professional conferences, in your places of work,

in retreat centers or recovery centers,

creating together spaces for deep renewal,

discernment and professional re-imagination.

We occasionally consult with organizations on strategic planning

or visioning with boards of directors,

but our expertise is in the design and facilitation of

tailored professional enrichment workshops and retreats.

We make the deep wellspring of tools from wisdom traditions

broadly accessible in very practical ways,

encouraging habits of discernment,

personal and dialogical reflection, deep listening,

and collective communal re-imagination.

Resources for Renewal develops and distributes resources

promoting greater understanding of human resilience

using insights and practices from contemplative traditions.

Drawing deeply from prophets, poets, and saints,

we work to respond authentically and

courageously to the challenges of our day.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

Resources for Renewal strives to make our offerings and resources available

We are currently seeking support for:

Distribution of Spiritual Exercises workbooks to shelters for the homeless and for domestic violence survivors ($50-$100)

Defraying the cost of a Spiritual Immersion Experience for low-income participants ($250-$500)

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Dr. Gillian Ahlgren is a dynamic teacher of Christian spirituality.  She is an internationally-recognized scholar of the Christian mystical tradition, an experienced spiritual director, and a popular public speaker.  She engages a regular practice of contemplative prayer, gives retreats and workshops, and consults with communities seeking renewal and resources for growth.  She was the Founding Director of Xavier University’s Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice.

Dr. Ahlgren is a teacher’s teacher. With a doctorate from the University of Chicago  and supplemental training in spiritual direction, pastoral theology, and trauma recovery, she brings thirty years as a theological educator and over a decade of direct pastoral engagement with women’s recovery communities

(in the areas of domestic violence and substance abuse)

to the design and facilitation of our programming.

Her sensitivity to the needs of those at the margins and her expertise in applying tools from the Christian

mystical tradition results in a myriad of reflective
experiences and educational materials to support

continual growth and identity re-formation.

In her teaching and public speaking, she promotes greater awareness of the transforming wisdom of spiritual leaders, past and present.  She creates moments of reflection, analysis, and creative visioning for individuals and communities seeking greater authenticity and self-expression.

Dr. Ahlgren keeps herself on the front lines of social issues.  Her pastoral work involves the spiritual accompaniment of women seeking recovery after domestic violence and women actively in recovery from addiction.
